Mokokchung, 3 August (MTNews): The Mokokchung District Cricket Association conducted the Open Trials for U-16 Boys and Women (All Categories on 2 August 2023 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex under the guidance of Coach Neehal Ahmad. Vice President of the Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA), Herato Sukhalu also conducted a special spot verification of the MDCA practice pitch 3 August.
The U-16 Boys & Women (All Categories) Open Trials was not only attended by aspiring players from Mokokchung but also from the neighboring district of Longleng. A total of 23 players (9 Boys and 14 Women) from Mokokchung and 3 players (1 Boy & 2 Women) from Longleng participated in the trials.
“Under the experienced leadership of Coach Neehal Ahmad, the trials encompassed rigorous drills and assessments, focusing on batting, bowling, fielding, and wicket-keeping skills,” the MDCA stated in an update. “The trials were designed to identify potential cricketing stars who could represent our District in regional and national tournaments,” it added.
The MDCA also acknowledged the NCA Vice-president’s presence and his spot verification of the practice pitch, calling it a “momentous development for MDCA,” adding that his visit was an affirmation of the Association’s commitment to promoting cricket at the grassroots level and nurturing young talents.
During his visit, Sukhalu engaged in insightful discussions with the officials of MDCA and commended their efforts in nurturing young talents and promoting the spirit of cricket in Mokokchung. He also expressed his satisfaction on the upkeep and maintenance of the facility. Moreover, the Vice President affirmed the NCA’s keen interest in supporting and encouraging cricket at the local level.
“The MDCA extends its profound gratitude to the NCA for their constant support, which has played a pivotal role in the growth and success of Cricket in Mokokchung,” MDCA said.
