Medziphema United FC clinched the Rokonicha Champions Trophy 2026 with a convincing 3-0 victory over Outlaws FC in the final at Chümoukedima Football Stadium on August 15.

The final, organised by the Chümoukedima District Football Association (CDFA), saw Medziphema United FC take control early, with Viskholie opening the scoring in the 20th minute.

After the break, Viselie Vasa doubled the lead in the 59th minute before adding his second goal two minutes later to complete a comfortable 3-0 victory. His brace sealed the championship for Medziphema United FC, which received a cash prize of Rs. 70,000.

The Rokonicha Champions Trophy was held from July 25 to August 15 as part of the 2nd Chümoukedima District Football League 2026.

At the closing ceremony, Guest of Honour Roko Angami, OSD, Department of Youth Resources & Sports, congratulated the CDFA and players. He said the tournament was not only about competition and winning, but also about remembering the legacy of former minister late Rokonicha, after whom the trophy was named.

“Every goal you score, every pass you make and every effort you give on the field can be a tribute to the memory of our dear Lt. Rokonicha,” he said.

Angami also urged young players to train consistently, emphasising that “there is no substitute for training”.

Individual awards saw Mhademo of Outlaws FC win the Golden Glove and Thanglenhao the Golden Boot. Viselie Vasa was named Emerging Player of the Tournament, while Kevisevor Zashümo won the Golden Ball.
