The independent candidate from Sungkomen Ward for the upcoming Mokokchung Municipal Council election, N Imtimenla Ao, officially declared her candidacy today at her residence. During her announcement, she affirmed her commitment to clean elections and promised to consult with the community before initiating any developmental projects if elected.

In her declaration speech, Imtimenla Ao stated that as a woman, she will focus on women’s upliftment and welfare. She observed that in Sungkomen, there are many widows and women who lack the means to provide for themselves. Therefore, her top priority will be the upliftment of destitute women and poor widows.

She also emphasized that focus will be given to women and child health. Despite the existence of many health schemes and programs related to these issues, she lamented that many of these programs do not reach the targeted groups. Therefore, she said she will ensure that women and children have access to various health schemes and programs.

She further highlighted the importance of improving ward beautification, proper drainage systems, footpaths, and waste management systems in the ward.

The Independent candidate also challenged that in this ULBs election, women must make a difference by demonstrating sincerity, efficiency, and competency, thereby serving as exemplary role models whether elected to Municipal or Town councils. She also called upon women to take the lead in ensuring clean elections.

Two women candidates, N Imtimenla Ao (Independent) and Sunepienla Longkumer (NDPP), are in the fray for the Mokokchung Municipal Council election from Sungkomen Ward, one of the 6 wards reserved for women.

Others who spoke at the Independent candidate’s declaration program included representatives from Sungkomen Ward Yimden, Riongsanger Putu Menden Chuchuyimpang, Sungratsu Village Council, Chuchuyimpang Union Mokokchung Town, Sungratsu Senso Senden Mokokchung, and Aoli Lemtur Kidong.
