Mokokchung, 10 May (MTNews): The Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) has reiterated its earlier notification regarding ban on Single-Use Plastic items. ADC and Administrator, MMC, Chumlamo Humtsoe informed in an order that the ban will be strictly enforced and checking of the same will be conducted by the MMC officials within its jurisdiction.

 

“In this regard, all are directed to comply with the above mentioned directives; defaulters shall be penalized as per the MMC standing order,” it was informed.

 

It may be mentioned here that the MMC had in its 21 June 2022 order promulgated the ban on Single-Use Plastic items.

 

As per the order, the manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use of carry bags made of virgin or recycled plastic shall not be less than 120 microns in thickness and non-woven plastic carry bags shall not be less than 60 Gram per Square Meter (GSM).

 

Further, the manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use of following single use plastic (SUP) commodities, including polystyrene and expanded polystyrene, are prohibited:

(a) Earbuds with plastic sticks, plastic sticks for balloons, plastic flags, candy sticks, ice cream sticks, polystyrene (thermocol) for decoration.

(b) Plates, cups, glasses, cutlery such as forks, spoons, knives, straw, trays, wrapping or packing films around sweet boxes, invitation cards, and cigarette packets, plastic or PVC banners less than 100 micron, and stirrers.
