Mokokchung: 1st Inter Department Sports Tournament concludes; DEF overall champions

Mokokchung, 25 November (MTNews): The first Mokokchung Inter-Department Sports Tournament 2023, organized under the aegis of the District Planning and Development Board, Mokokchung, culminated on Saturday, 25 November, at the Indoor Badminton Stadium, Mokokchung.

In the closing program, Col Rahul Gurung KC, Commandant, 12th Assam Rifles, delivered a speech in which he expressed that he hasn’t witnessed or known of such a tournament ever organized, where various departments come together to participate. He emphasized that sports events like this would help strengthen bonds among different departments. Gurung commended the initiative, suggesting that such events should continue in the future.

During the program, Er Imlisunep Imchen, Principal of ITI, Mokokchung, and a member of the organizing committee, presented the tournament report. The tournament featured five disciplines: Badminton, Carrom, Table Tennis, Chess, and Arm Wrestling.

A total of 57 departments participated in the tournament. A total cash prize of Rs 2,10,000 was awarded to the winners in various categories. Winners of the doubles categories received prizes of Rs 10,000 and Rs 6,000, while individual prizes amounted to Rs 5,000 and Rs 3000.

Bendangienla from the District Forest Department was adjudged the Best Player, and the District Forest Department received the award for the Best Disciplined Department. The District Executive Force (DEF) secured the Team Champion running trophy as the overall champion of the first Inter-Department Sports Tournament.
