Mokokchung District joined the rest of the country in celebrating the 15th National Voters’ Day on January 25, 2025, at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Mokokchung. The event, organized by the District Election Office in collaboration with the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of Fazl Ali College (FAC), featured the theme “Nothing like voting, I vote for sure.”

Guest of honor LS Vinod Kumar, Vice Principal of Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, emphasized that National Voters’ Day has been celebrated since 2011 under various themes to promote the importance of voting. He stated that this year’s theme, “Nothing like voting, I vote for sure,” aims to encourage all voters to exercise their fundamental rights and strengthen the democratic process of the country. “As responsible citizens, we must judiciously participate in the election process to elect the right representatives for the growth of the nation,” he added. He also highlighted that the youth, being the future of the country, should be aware of the importance of their voting rights.

Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji, in his keynote address, called for active participation from all enrolled voters in the democratic process of the nation. Encouraging young voters, he urged them to be thoughtful while exercising their voting rights. He also underscored the role and responsibility of the BLOs (Booth Level Officers), stating that they are the backbone of the democratic process and play a vital role in ensuring clean and fair elections through proper electoral rolls.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Chumlamo Humtsoe, delivering the welcome address, stated that the nation has dedicated a day for all voters because they hold the power to decide the destiny of the country. “In a democratic setup, the power lies in the hands of the voters, and we must act as guardians to preserve this sacred role,” he said.

Earlier in the program, a special presentation was made by Sentinaro Jamir, a Political Science student from FAC. The guest of honour felicitated newly enrolled voters and administered the voters’ pledge. The program was chaired by Renben Mozhui, Assistant Election Officer of Mokokchung, with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr Lipokrenla Jamir, Associate Professor of Political Science at FAC.

During the event, the Deputy Commissioner presented the Best BLOs Award 2025 to 10 BLOs from Mokokchung District.
