The 22nd Triennial Conference cum 63rd Anniversary of the Nagaland Dobashi Association (NDBA) commenced on January 16 at P Shilu Ao Park, Mokokchung town.

The two-day event, held under the theme “Strengthening the Spirit of Naga Customary Laws and its Practices,” will conclude on January 17.

The introductory session was graced by Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji as the Chief Host. In his address, Phoji highlighted the origins of the Dobashi institution, tracing its roots back to the British era. He emphasized the foundational qualities of Dobashis – integrity, trustworthiness, and linguistic skills. Reflecting on their legacy, Phoji noted the sacrifices made by Dobashis in earlier times and urged the present generation to uphold those values while adapting to changing circumstances.

He further called on Dobashis to steer clear of divisive “isms” and maintain the integrity of their role as custodians of customary laws and mediators of justice.

The session was chaired by Imolangba, District Head Dobashi of Mokokchung, while Vikheho sema, President of NDBA, delivered the presidential address, reinforcing the significance of the theme. A short speech was also delivered by the president of the GBs Association, Mokokchung. The Kohima District Dobashis enriched the session with the presentation of a traditional tune.

Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, TR Zeliang will attend the plenary session of the event as special guest while TN Mannen, Advisor, Law & Justice and Land Revenue will attend the valedictory session as honoured guest on Friday.
