Along with the rest of the world, Mokokchung District observed World Blood Donors Day on 14 June 2024 under the theme “Share life, give blood” at Dr Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital, Mokokchung. The event was organized by the Mokokchung Voluntary Blood Donors Association and the Indian Medical Association, Mokokchung Branch.
Addressing the donors and participants, Dr Maongkala, Medical Officer at Mongsenyimti PHC, stated, “Blood donors give an incredible gift, a gift that transcends boundaries and connects strangers.” She applauded the blood donors for giving a piece of themselves to help others battling complications during childbirth, a child battling leukemia, a victim of a car accident, or saving a young person with a bright future.
Dr Maongkala further stated that blood donors are ordinary people bridging the gap between life and death. She appreciated the efforts undertaken by the Blood Bank at IMDH Mokokchung, for ensuring the safety of transfusions, providing a stable supply of safe blood, and equipping the Blood Bank to provide quality care to all citizens, both donors and recipients. She also recognized the Mokokchung Voluntary Blood Donors Association for working towards increasing voluntary donations and providing greater access and availability of blood for the entire population.
Blood donors Onen Lemtur and Lanuakum shared their experiences as blood donors and urged the population to come forward for blood donation.
A total of 26 units of blood were collected from donors.
