Ahead of World Environment Day on June 5, Mokokchung district is launching the “Trade Waste for Green” campaign, an innovative initiative encouraging citizens to exchange segregated plastic waste for native tree saplings.
Aimed at reducing plastic pollution and promoting sustainable waste practices, the trash-for-trees campaign carries the slogan ”Let’s Beat Plastic for a Green Mokokchung.” Residents, schools, businesses, municipal authorities, and government departments are all being mobilized in this community-driven effort, with geo-tagged waste collections tracked via the Meri LiFE Portal.
Dr. Sentitula, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Mokokchung, informed that the community-centric initiative is aimed at tackling plastic pollution and transitioning toward a zero-waste future.
“Though the event takes place in a single week, its vision is long-term: laying the foundation for sustainable waste governance and a circular economy in Mokokchung,” she added.
