Jungshiwati’s first half strike took Penli Ward to the final of the ongoing Mokokchung Inter Ward Football Tournament played at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung on Tuesday.
Tongdentsuyong played with resilience throughout the tournament and they looked like potential title contenders but they were unable to overcome the Penli hurdle in the first semifinal match as they could not find the equalizer after Jungshiwati made the breakthrough for Penli in the 34th minute.
Penli ward is now just one win away from lifting the Inter Ward trophy on Friday. They will face the winner of the second semifinal match between 2021 champions Artang and Sangtemla which is to be played on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, L Limasunep Imchen, Vice Principal, NI Jamir GHSS, Yimyu graced the first semifinal match as the match patron.
Encouraging the players, Imchen cited the examples of Nagaland’s neighboring states such as Manipur and Mizoram where players, according to him “eat, sleep and dream football.” He encouraged the players to strive for excellence and achieve greatness in the sport which he said is a global phenomenon.
