Mokokchung, 27 July (MTNews): The citizens of Mokokchung village conducted a mass social work on Yimchalu Road via Longpakyong on 27 July. This has been practiced by the village ever since the construction of Longpakyong road in 2018 where the Mokokchung villagers clean the entire stretch of the road as an annual event.
This, according to the villagers, is through an understanding of the importance of cleaning the surrounding as an age-old tradition and also to avoid any road misfortune and accidents. The villagers are reported to have carried out the drive without any financial assistance from the government sector.
According to an update received here, the Forest Department, upon considering the road as an important route, built a watch tower and provided medicinal and ornamental tree saplings to be planted on the entire stretch of the road, which was planted by the Mokokchung Senso Mungdang.
The Mokokchung Village Council has further requested all the citizens taking the route to help preserve the valuable trees and avoid destroying them or cause menace in the surrounding areas and also to avoid doing any anti-social activity.
