Guwahati, 21 April (MTNews): Following the meeting between CM Rio and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday at Assam House, New Delhi, Nagaland CM told reporters that the two states are keen on resolving the border issue between the states through an out-of-court settlement.

“Like Assam and Arunachal had signed the agreement on border dispute today, likewise we are also discussing that we should settle Assam-Nagaland border dispute outside the court,” Rio said.

Rio in 2022 had said the same about settling the decades old state border dispute out-of-court. It may be recalled that the Assam government had filed a case in the Supreme Court in 1988 for resolving the border dispute.

Speaking on oil exploration, he said that in principle, the two states had agreed to sign an MoU and that both states have agreed to share royalty from petroleum exploration from the disputed area.
