NAGALAND POLICE ARRESTS ONE FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

Nagaland Cyber Crime Police Station, PHQ has arrested one person for child pornography after the case was referred to Nagaland Police by Interpol, Stockholm through CBI International Police Co-operation Unit (IPCU). The accused was arrested in Kohima on 18 May last.

The accused was part of Rooms/Groups in the ‘Wickr app’ where child pornography was shared/posted amongst the members, Nagaland Police informed.

Nagaland Police has reiterated that publishing or transmitting obscene or sexually explicit material in electronic form is a criminal offense under IT Act.

Wickr app, like Whatsapp, provides end-to-end encryption; however, Law Enforcement Agencies can gain access and detect criminal activities, Nagaland Police said.

Further, Nagaland Police has requested the public to inform the police department if the circulation of obscene and sexually explicit material is seen on social media platforms or messaging apps so that legal action is initiated.
