Kohima, February 7 (MTNews): The Nagaland Police has been conducting a special drive since February 1, 2023, in order to control various traffic violations in the state. Through a press note, the Nagaland Police has informed that in order to inculcate traffic discipline and to reduce accidents, rash and negligent driving and to control various offences under the Motor Vehicle Act, Nagaland Police has informed that it will intensify and continue these actions.
The department also noted that many vehicles are plying in the state of Nagaland without proper vehicular registration and no registration number; vehicles with AF (Applied For) as mentioned.
The department further noted that Government vehicles that were purchased in the auction and Government Vehicles being used by retired Government Officers are yet to change the registration of the vehicle even though the provisions of the MV Act state that the vehicles have to be registered in the name of the new owner within a stipulated time period.
Therefore, the department informed that vehicles plying without proper vehicular registration and no registration number and vehicles with AF (Applied For) as mentioned, if found plying on the roads will be subject to immediate confiscation and further legal action.
It also added that the Government vehicles that were purchased in the auction and Government vehicles being used by retired Government Officers that are yet to change the registration of the vehicle found being misused for illegal activities during the upcoming election to the State Legislative Assembly cannot be ruled out.
Therefore, the owners of those vehicles have been informed to contact the nearest SP Office along with the relevant documents for having AF registration and give an undertaking that the vehicle shall not be used for any illegal activities which would violate the Model Code of Conduct.
The retired officers using Government vehicles have been requested to return the vehicle to the concerned Department or not to use the same till the completion of the election process.
