Mokokchung, 1 March (MTNews): In alignment with the National Immunization Day initiative, Nagaland is gearing up to observe Polio Day on 3 March 2024 across all its districts. The aim is to ensure comprehensive polio vaccination coverage for children under the age of 5, irrespective of their prior immunization history.
The campaign emphasizes administering two drops of the oral polio vaccine to safeguard against polio, despite India’s official polio-free status. This preventive measure is crucial due to the persistent threat of polio in certain countries, highlighting the importance of sustained vaccination efforts.
On 3 March, designated booths will operate from 8 AM to 3 PM, offering parents and caregivers the opportunity to bring their children for vaccination. Following administration, a non-toxic ink mark will be placed on the child’s finger to facilitate monitoring by health workers.
Authorities have urged parents and caregivers to actively participate in the campaign and avail themselves of the vaccination services provided at the polio booths. Further information can be obtained from health workers, ASHA, and AWWs operating in respective areas.
“The success of the upcoming National Immunization Day relies on a collaborative effort involving various stakeholders such as allied departments, Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Village Council Chairpersons and members, as well as leaders and members of organizations like IMA, IAP, IDA, Rotary, Lions, among others. It is imperative to ensure that all children under 5 years of age receive the TWO DROPS of oral polio vaccine in their families and communities,” an update from NHM said.
