The Nagaland Basketball Association (NBA) on Saturday announced that referee Salew Kadete has been invited to officiate at the 39th Youth National Basketball Championship (Men & Women) in Kolkata. Scheduled from November 29 to December 5, 2024, this event marks a historic milestone as Salew becomes the first referee from Nagaland to officiate at a National Basketball Championship.

Salew Kadete holds the distinction of being among Nagaland’s first B-Level Referees accredited by the Basketball Federation of India (BFI), showcasing his dedication to advancing basketball in the state. His career highlights include his national debut at the 68th Senior Nationals in Chennai (2018), where his leadership as a team captain earned widespread recognition. Salew’s strategic expertise further shone during the 71st Senior Nationals in Shillong (2022) and the 73rd Senior Nationals in Ludhiana (2023).

Salew’s contributions extend beyond officiating, with accolades such as a silver medal at the Northeast Olympic Games (Shillong, 2022) and a bronze medal at the Northeast Games (Nagaland, 2024).

“His remarkable journey reflects deep knowledge of the game, which he will bring to his role as a B-Level Panel Referee,” Nagaland Basketball Association said. The association also congratulated Salew on this momentous achievement.
