Nagaland State Transport (NST) has informed that senior citizens in the state are entitled to free travel on its passenger services, subject to specified eligibility criteria and procedures.
In a communication to the Programme Manager of the National Helpline for Senior Citizens (Elderline-14567), General Manager of NST, Shikaho P. Yeptho, said the information was being provided for dissemination through the Elderline helpline and for the benefit of senior citizens across the state.
According to NST, senior citizens aged 60 years and above are eligible for a 100 per cent concession on NST passenger fares. The concession may be availed up to four times in a calendar year, including onward and return journeys. Each journey from the originating station to the terminating station will be treated as one completed stretch.
To avail of the concession, eligible passengers must submit a photocopy of their Aadhaar card, a No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by the respective District Social Welfare Department, and two passport-size photographs.
Senior citizens can apply for the concession by approaching the NST Station Officer in their respective districts or by visiting the office of the General Manager at the NST Headquarters in Dimapur.
“The above information is furnished for dissemination through the Elderline Helpline-14567 and for the benefit of senior citizens in the state,” the General Manager stated in the letter addressed to the National Helpline for Senior Citizens.
The clarification was issued in response to a letter from the National Helpline for Senior Citizens, Nagaland, seeking details on travel concessions available to senior citizens under the Nagaland State Transport system.
