Sovima, 20 October: At the close of Day 3 in the Ranji Trophy match at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Nagaland has established a commanding position against Manipur, leading by 309 runs. After declaring their second innings at 306 for 5, they have set Manipur a daunting target of 405 runs to secure victory.
In their second innings, Nagaland showcased a strong batting performance, highlighted by Nischal Dega’s remarkable century. Dega scored an impressive 154 runs off 228 balls, laying a solid foundation for the team’s declaration. Alongside him, Hem contributed a vital 90 runs off 242 balls, frustrating Manipur’s bowlers with his patient approach. Captain Jonathan Rongsen played a quick cameo, scoring 26 not out, allowing Nagaland to declare confidently after 92 overs.
For Manipur, Bishworjit was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for 38 runs, while Ajay Singh and Kabir each claimed one wicket.
Chasing a steep target of 405, Manipur concluded Day 3 at 96 for 2 after 29 overs. They now require 309 more runs on the final day to pull off an unlikely victory, while Nagaland’s bowlers will be keen to claim the remaining eight wickets.
