One-year certificate, two-year diploma, three-year degree, and four-year research track offered under new NEP-aligned programmes

Nagaland University has launched new four-year undergraduate science programmes under its Multi-Disciplinary Research Centre (MDRC) and invited applications for the upcoming academic session. The university is the only Central University in Nagaland.

Admissions will open from April 27, 2026, and the last date for submission of applications is May 18, 2026. Interested candidates can apply online through the university admission portal.

The programmes are being introduced in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and are designed to offer flexible exit options, a dedicated research track and multidisciplinary learning opportunities. The courses will be offered at the Lumami campus.

The Centre will offer core courses in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology and Botany. Students will also study Ability Enhancement Courses, Value Added Courses and employability enhancement courses aimed at building professional, analytical and life skills.

The MDRC follows a Flexible Choice-Based Credit System with multiple entry and exit options. Students may earn a Certificate after one year, a Diploma after two years, a Bachelor’s Degree after three years and a Bachelor’s Degree with Research after four years. The four-year research degree may also provide a pathway to direct admission into PhD programmes as per applicable regulations.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik invited students from across the country to apply for the newly introduced programmes.

“Aligned with the vision of NEP 2020, these programmes offer flexible exit options, a dedicated research track, and a truly multidisciplinary learning environment. This initiative reflects the University’s commitment to academic innovation, research excellence, and preparing students for the evolving demands of the future,” he said.

Each discipline will have an intake capacity of 10 seats. Applications are open for B.Sc. programmes in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology and Botany.

Students enrolled in the programmes will have access to technology-enabled learning spaces, advanced laboratories, digital learning platforms, research facilities and Central Library resources.

Candidates who have secured at least 50 per cent marks in Class 12 or equivalent examinations from recognised boards are eligible to apply. Students awaiting results may also apply, subject to university admission rules.
