Chumukedima, 27 April (MTNews): A state-level workshop centered on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act convened in Chumukedima, Nagaland, on 27 April. Organized by the High Court Legal Services Committee, Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench, in collaboration with government bodies and law enforcement agencies, the event aimed to address challenges and facilitate solutions concerning the application of these crucial laws.

Graced by esteemed dignitaries including La Ganesan, Governor of Nagaland, and Justice Budi Habung, Judge of Gauhati High Court, the workshop featured insightful sessions led by experts in the field, culminating in interactive discussions.

Key topics explored during the sessions included the presumptions outlined in Sections 29 and 30 of the POCSO Act, with Justice (Retd.) Mir Alfaz Ali from the Judicial Academy, Assam, providing an in-depth analysis of their application and associated challenges. Dr Shaibya Saldanha, Co-founder of Enfold Trust and Child Protection trainer, delved into the implementation hurdles of the POCSO Act, offering potential solutions. Rupin Sharma, Director General of Police (DGP) of Nagaland, shared insights into state-specific challenges and strategies.

In addition, retired District & Sessions Judge, SP Moitra, navigated through bail procedures, seizure laws, and reformatory measures under the NDPS Act, emphasizing the landmark Mohanlal Judgement.

A noteworthy addition to the event was the launch of two books, ‘Law in Motion’ and ‘Cyber Crimes,’ by the Director General of Police (DGP), enriching the discourse on legal frameworks and law enforcement in Nagaland.

The workshop provided a platform for constructive dialogue and collaborative action, fostering an environment conducive to enhancing the effective implementation and enforcement of these critical legislations.
