Bar escalates protest over demand for removal of Advocate General
The Nagaland Bar Association (NBA) has announced that it will disengage from all court proceedings on September 25, escalating its protest over the government’s inaction on its demand for the removal of the incumbent Advocate General (AG).
In a resolution adopted as a “further expression of protest”, the NBA has asked its members appearing before the district courts to remain present in their respective courts on September 25, but without wearing their coats and bands.
“Considering the inaction of the government in securing the resignation of the incumbent Advocate General, as a further expression of protest, the Nagaland Bar Association shall disengage from all court proceedings on 25.09.2026,” the resolution stated.
The association said further action would be taken depending on the circumstances.
The NBA also said it was placing the resolution in the public domain to inform the general public of its stand and the course of action it had adopted.
“The Nagaland Bar Association considers it necessary to place the above resolution in the public domain so that the general public is duly informed of the stand and course of action adopted by the Bar,” it stated.
