NDPP president Chingwang Konyak handed over the party ticket to Wangpang Konyak at the NDPP headquarters in Chumoukedima today.

The bye-election was necessitated after the demise of sitting NDPP MLA Noke Wangnao, the advisor for social welfare, on 28 August.

The polling for the bye-election will be held on 7 November and the results will be declared on 3 December. Konyak, 39, resigned as a Superintendent in the Directorate of New and Renewable Energy to contest the bye-election.

The BJP, which is an ally of the NDPP, has extended its support to Wangpang Konyak for the bye-election.

It may be mentioned that the Congress has fielded Wanglem Konyak, who unsuccessfully contested the last assembly election on an NPF ticket, as it candidate for the 43 Tapi AC bye-election.

“Mr Konyak, a dedicated public servant, was officially entrusted with the responsibility to bring positive change to the constituency,” NDPP said in a statement.

“The NDPP remains committed to conducting the bye-election in the 43-Tapi Assembly Constituency in a democratic and transparent manner, ensuring the constituents are effectively represented,” it added.
