Mokokchung, July 18 (MTNews): The Nagaland In-Service Doctors’ Association (NIDA) has suspended its proposed agitation demanding a review of the cabinet decision on the superannuation of government doctors for 1 week with effect from July 19.

The Media Cell of NIDA Core Committee on Superannuation informed in a press release that the agitation was called owing to a lack of response from the government even after a gap of 3 months. However, as the association received a notification from the government in the 11th hour, the agitation has been kept in suspended animation for 1 week, during which the members will study the notification thoroughly and get back to the Government for any clarification and rectification for wider acceptance to the NIDA fraternity, the press release informed.

Further, NIDA also expressed gratitude to all the organizations for their support in the various media platforms to its legitimate demands.

WSH supports NIDA demand

The Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) has extended its support to Nagaland In-Service Doctors Association (NIDA) on the demand of enhancement of superannuation age. “This announcement was made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 26, 2016 but the state government is yet to fulfill it,” WSH said in support of NIDA. WSH also said that there is an acute shortage of doctors in the state, especially in rural areas, “and by increasing their retirement age, it would serve as a respite from the acute shortage.”

In addition to this, WSH said, the two upcoming medical colleges in Kohima and Mon districts would require a huge number of doctors to run them. “Further, with the creation of the four new districts in our state, Tseminyu, Niuland, Chumoukedima and Shamator, the state would require additional doctors to cater the needs of the rising population as many vacancies would be needed to fill up, WSH added. “The WSH, therefore, appeals to the state government to look into the NIDA’s demand which is genuine and legitimate,” it appealed.
