Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), accompanied by the Secretary of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and other officials, attended the first meeting of the “Committee of the Presiding Officers to Frame the Uniform Model Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of Legislative Bodies” held in Mysuru, Karnataka, from May 11 to 13.

The meeting was chaired by Satish Mahana, Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, who delivered the keynote address on the proposed Uniform Model Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business.

The committee deliberated on framing uniform rules for legislative bodies across the country and resolved to seek suggestions from Speakers of various State Legislative Assemblies before finalising its report for submission to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

It was also decided that the Secretaries of the Legislative Assemblies of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, and Nagaland would separately examine areas where uniformity in rules could be implemented.

The next meeting of the committee will be held in New Delhi.
