The Nagaland Law Students’ Federation (NLSF) has extended “its unequivocal support” to the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) in its opposition to the admission of Ms. Vatsala Panghal under the Nagaland State quota for NEET 2025, citing alleged “procedural and substantive irregularities.”

In a statement, the NLSF said its stand was “in furtherance of its mandate to uphold constitutional principles and protect the rights of Indigenous Naga students.” The federation urged the Directorate of Technical Education and other competent authorities to conduct an “immediate and thorough review of the candidate’s eligibility, particularly with respect to: (1) Permanent residency and domicile status within Nagaland, (2) Compliance with State Quota Policy norms, and (3) Verification of Indigenous Inhabitant status.”

The NLSF warned that “these irregularities, if proven, would constitute a violation of the constitutional safeguards afforded to Scheduled Tribes under Articles 15(4), 16(4), and 46 of the Constitution of India, which mandate the promotion of the educational and economic interests of socially and educationally disadvantaged groups.”

It further asserted that “such admissions, obtained by misrepresentation or fraudulent documentation, not only contravene the principles of natural justice, equality, and non-arbitrariness under Article 14, but also compromise the integrity of the State’s reservation framework and deprive eligible Indigenous candidates of their rightful opportunities.”

Calling for urgent measures, the NLSF urged authorities to: “Initiate a comprehensive inquiry against all NEET candidates 2025 admissions under the indigenous quota with special attention to verifying the authenticity of documents submitted.”

“Revoke admissions and initiate legal action against individuals found to have secured seats through fraudulent means.”

“Strengthen the verification mechanism for Indigenous Inhabitant Certificates and Scheduled Tribe Certificates, including mandatory cross-verification.”

“Take disciplinary action against any officials, if found in such malpractices.”

“Establish a transparent grievance redressal cell to address concerns raised by any Indigenous candidates.”

The federation stressed that “this matter is not merely administrative in nature, but attracts the foundational principles of social justice, affirmative action, and equitable access to education for Indigenous citizens.” It said it was “pertinent upon the competent authorities to ensure justice ‘seen to be done clearly.’”

Reiterating its solidarity with the NSF, the NLSF stated: “We appreciate the NSF for its vigilance and reaffirming our commitment to defend the rights and privileges for the indigenous Naga students in all appropriate legal and democratic forums.”

The statement was issued by NLSF president Neivisielie Rino and general secretary Temsu I Jr.
