Mokokchung, 16 January (MTNews): In a poignant ceremony, Maj Gen Vikas Lakhera, Sena Medal, Inspector General Assam Rifles (North), and Kikasangla, mother of Late Rifleman (General Duty) Nokzar Ao, jointly inaugurated the “Nokzar Ao Memorial” at Mangmetong village in Mokokchung district of Nagaland on 16 January. The memorial stands as a tribute to Late Rifleman (General Duty) Nokzar Ao, who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation and attained martyrdom, laying down his life on 14 April 2009 at Chassad, Manipur, while serving with the 12 Assam Rifles. For his gallant act and supreme sacrifice, he was posthumously awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry.
The memorial was inaugurated in the presence of Braveheart’s family members, Village Council Members, Assam Rifles personals and hundreds of villagers, an official update said. In addition to the memorial, a village road was also named ‘Nokzar Ao Road’ in honor of the fallen hero.
During the solemn occasion, a small function was organized where Village Council Members, family members, and Inspector General Maj Gen Vikas Lakhera spoke about the life and supreme sacrifice of Late Rifleman Nokzar Ao.
