Mokokchung, 17 April (MTNews): The NSCN-IM has leveled allegation at the Assam Rifles of fabricating news, stating that it is tantamount to “willfully committing lies to deceive the people (public) to tarnish the image of NSCN.”

This was in response to a press release issued by PRO (Defense) Assam Rifles which stated that two NSCN cadres, Sergeant Major Imkongtiba and Sergeant Major Pamthing were apprehended from general area, New Camp, Mokokchung district along with two weapons and live ammunition.

According to a press release from the NSCN-IM, the way the Assam Rifles described the weapons and live ammunition as “war-like stores” was “baseless and motivated to put the NSCN on the wrong side of ceasefire ground rules that govern both the NSCN and security forces.”

The group clarified that they were arrested together with one civilian without any weapon and documents in their possession and that the civilian was carrying one ‘kartoos’ (SBBL cartridge) for hunting.

According to the group, “such fabrication by PRO (Defense) targeting NSCN had happened numerous times even in the past exposing the AR’s ruthless and dishonest manner of dealing with NSCN that is in ceasefire and political talks with the government of India.”

On inquiry, police sources confirmed to Mokokchung Times that the accused were apprehended with ‘kartoos’ (SBBL cartridge) and an air gun and that further investigation was still ongoing.
