Earlier on January 4, Col. (Rtd) Isak Sumi, the general secretary of NSCN-K (Khango) faction, was removed from office by Khango Konyak, president of the NSCN-K (Khango), on the grounds that he was found guilty of acquiring “absolute powers and functions” without the consent of the faction’s collective leadership, according to a notification received on Thursday, January 5.

In addition, Sumi was accused of “non-distribution of powers and functions, nepotism, and self-styled one-man government,” which was in complete violation of the “Yezhabo and discipline”. Konyak stated that Sumi’s impeachment took effect on January 4, 2023.

“Henceforth, he is discharged of all his power and duties and shall no longer be a member of NSCN/GPRN-K and the organization shall not be responsible for any of his actions hereafter,” the notification added.

As one of the working committee’s co-conveners, Sumi represented the NSCN-K (Khango) in the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs).

However, following this, an emergency meeting was convened between the Council of Kilonsers, Tatars, Secretariat staff, Army Officers and party functionaries where the house resolved to declare the January 4 order null and void.

“The President without observing the constitutional norms, without the approval and recommendation of the Council of Kilonsers or the Tatar Hoho and without acquiring two third majority of the party workers at the behest of few rogue elements had issued the impeachment of the Ato Kilonser on January 4, 2023,” the house claimed in the statement while condemning the “unconstitutional and high handed act” of the President.

The house further resolved to nullify the impeachment order and instead impeach the President with immediate effect in the event of the failure on the part of the President to nullify Sumi’s impeachment order.

The house also condemned the unequivocally coup led by Col. Phuyeka and the life attempt made on the Ato Kilonser, illegal seizure of weapons deployed on Ato Kilonser’s Security Guards and forceful occupation of CFSB office and arrest of its office guards and weapons.

“The House is eagerly waiting for his Excellency the President NSCN/GPRN to acknowledge the resolution passed by the house on 5th Jan, 2023,” the statement continued.

The house while extending their “whole hearted support to the NNPG’s and its pursuit for early honorable solution appealed to the NNPG’s, the GOI and the peace loving Naga people to intervene and rescue and preserve the ongoing peace process from the evil plot of the saboteurs and anti-peace elements”.

The house also appealed to the MHA, GOI and the Chairman CFSB to “restore the sanctity of the CFSB office and the release of the weapons and the cadres being illegally held in the custody of the rogue elements”.
