The NSCN-K (YA) has expressed concerns regarding reports that the Myanmar authority and the ‘proscribed’ NSCN-Angmai group are planning to sign a ceasefire agreement. In a statement, the NSCN-K (YA) noted, “It has come to our notice that the Myanmar authority and the proscribed NSCN-Angmai group are planning to sign a ceasefire agreement and it is rather unsurprising as they have been working hand in glove since lately.”

It raised critical questions about the content and implications of such discussions, stating, “The question is what points are they going to talk about as this group does not have any political agenda and does not and will never represent the aspirations of the Nagas.”

It further emphasized that “whatsoever agreement may reach between the two parties will not reflect and represent the political position and aspiration of the Naga people,” asserting that any agreement would be “solely limited to the foregoing parties alone.”

“NSCN/GPRN alone represent the sentiments of the Naga people and endorse their political aspirations,” it stated.

The NSCN-K (YA) also questioned Myanmar authority’s nexus with the Angmai group stating that it amounts to official recognition and legitimization of an expelled group that poses a serious threat to the stability and unity of the eastern Nagas.

“This group is here to hoodwink and dilute the area and rob the bread and butter of the Naga public,” it added.

It advised the Myanmar authority to not utilize the group to jeopardize the political and security environment of the eastern Naga area.

“If Myanmar copy India’s divisive mentality to divide Nagas it will be a big mistake,” it added, and suggested the concerned authority to refrain from dragging the NSCN/GPRN and the Naga people into the present Myanmar conflict stating that they have been maintaining neutrality since day one of the conflict.
