The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), in its weather update for the coming days, informed that Nagaland will experience heavy rainfall and moderate rain in almost all districts until October 5, 2024.
It stated that these showers may be accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas. During this period, heavy rainfall is expected in the districts of Kohima, Niuland, Noklak, and Peren, while the remaining districts may receive moderate rain under overcast conditions. As a result, it is critical to take the necessary precautions to avoid lightning strikes and high winds, which can disrupt communication and connectivity. Nagaland’s lowland and foothill districts, including Dimapur, Niuland, Chumukedima, Bhandari, Pangti, Tizit, and Tuli, are vulnerable to waterlogging and flash floods due to the possibility of excessive precipitation in the hill sector, it added.
The NSDMA has urged the public to exercise caution to avoid any untoward incidents during this period. It also requested all District Disaster Management Authorities and other line departments to be on alert to safeguard lives and properties during this monsoon period.
