The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has warned of continued rainfall and thunderstorms across parts of the State from August 2 to 5, with some districts likely to receive moderate to heavy rain.
According to the latest district-wise weather outlook issued by NSDMA, Longleng is expected to receive moderate to heavy intermittent rainfall on August 2, while Phek may experience localized thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light rain.
Weather activity is expected to increase on August 3, with light to moderate rain forecast at scattered locations in Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Mokokchung and Phek. Localized thunderstorms and lightning with light to moderate rainfall are also expected in Kohima, Tseminyu, Tuensang, Wokha and Longleng.
On August 4, localized thunderstorms and lightning with light to moderate rainfall are forecast in Kohima, Longleng, Meluri, Mokokchung, Peren, Shamator and Wokha. Several other districts are expected to receive light to moderate rain at a few or scattered locations.
By August 5, scattered intermittent light to moderate rainfall is expected over most districts, while Tseminyu may receive moderate to heavy rainfall at a few places.
In view of the forecast, NSDMA has advised residents to remain alert to possible flooding, waterlogging, landslides, mudslides and falling rocks, particularly in vulnerable areas during periods of intense rainfall and thunderstorms.
Motorists have also been advised to exercise caution while travelling, while the public has been urged to follow official weather forecasts and advisories.
