The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has expressed grief over the loss of lives in the recent landslides and flash floods that struck Mon district and other parts of Nagaland, while urging the state government to ensure timely relief and prioritise long-term rehabilitation of affected communities.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, the federation conveyed its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the disaster.
The NSF also acknowledged the efforts of the state government, district administrations, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), security forces, medical personnel, civil society organisations, churches and volunteers involved in rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations.
Appealing for collective support, the federation called on tribal bodies, student organisations, churches, civil society organisations, business establishments and the public to extend assistance to families affected by the floods and landslides.
The NSF further urged the government to ensure that relief reaches all affected families in a timely, transparent and equitable manner. It also called for sustained rehabilitation efforts, including the restoration of damaged roads, bridges, electricity, water supply and communication networks, and adequate compensation for the loss of homes, crops, livestock and other property.
The federation also stressed the need to strengthen disaster preparedness across the state through measures such as scientific landslide mitigation, improved drainage systems, slope stabilisation, early warning mechanisms, hazard mapping and the development of climate-resilient infrastructure in vulnerable areas.
Reiterating its solidarity with the affected communities, the NSF said it stands with the people of Mon district and others impacted by the disaster during the recovery process.
