Mokokchung, 31 March (MTNews): The Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) while extending its gratitude to the government for taking up with concern the anomalies in the Nagaland Municipal Act 2001 as has been brought to public domain by the Nagaland Apex Tribes Hohos and Civil Society Organizations said that it welcomes the resolution of the recently concluded Nagaland Legislative Assembly 2023 to repeal the Nagaland Municipal Act 2001 “in toto.”
“The legislation to repeal the NM Act 2001 vi-sa-vis ULB election has done much of the damage control of the protective Art 371A of the Constitution of India, and for smooth administration of Municipal and Town Councils in the state in the long run,” the council said.
The council hoped that the government would exercise consultation of all concerned stakeholders in its endeavor to enact its own Nagaland Municipal Act, and hoped that the new Act that will be enacted would be free of criticism, Art 371A of the Constitution of India, the customary practices and traditions, and will be a people of Nagaland friendly Act.
