The Indian Constitution Day was celebrated at Nagaland University on November 26, 2024, at I. Ihoshe Kinimi Hall, Lumami. The event was chaired by Dr. Deepak Bhaskar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science. The National Song was performed by the Chumpo PG Men’s Hostellers.


In his welcome address, Prof. M.K. Sinha, Dean of the School of Social Sciences, spoke about the history, inception, and future prospects of the Constitution. Dr. Likhase Sangtam, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science and Coordinator of the programme, provided insights into the background of the making of the Indian Constitution and emphasized the significance of Constitution Day in reflecting the diverse nature of Indian society.

Dr. Shasanka S. Pati, Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science, read the Preamble in Hindi, followed by Mr. Teisozelhou Beio, Convenor of the Nagaland University Research Scholars Forum, Lumami, who read it in English.

Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik, Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University and the Guest of Honour, described the Constitution as a living testament to India’s diversity, emphasizing that India is not a country of one race but a land of harmony. He highlighted the Constitution’s calligraphic writing, its 25 parts, and 12 schedules, offering the audience a deeper understanding of its framework.

Dr. Sandeep Gupta, Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology, expressed his appreciation for the programme. The event, attended by statutory officers, deans, HoDs, faculty members, administrative staff, research scholars, and PG students, concluded with the National Anthem, performed by the Nagaland University Students’ Union, Lumami.
