Kohima, 26 October (MTNews): The inaugural program for a two-week capacity-building course on Curriculum Development for Higher Education Teachers was held at Nagaland University, Meriema Campus, on October 26, 2023, with Prof Dr GT Thong, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, as the chief guest.

In his inaugural address, he emphasized three key aspects of curriculum design: A learner-centered approach; A traditional subject-centered design; and a problem-centered design, with a focus on involving students in the learning process, developing problem-solving skills, and enhancing students’ communication abilities.

Dr T Yolila Sangtam, Assistant Professor of Teacher Education, chaired the program. Dr. Jano Legise, Dean of the School of Humanities and Education, welcomed the participants and commended the department’s initiatives. She encouraged all participants to work toward building academic friendships and to approach their roles with renewed determination and purpose.

Dr Sushil Kumar Singh, the Program Director, elaborated on the program’s theme. He stressed the vital role teachers play in society and the need to first enlighten teachers to guide the new generation toward excellence. The two-week program is designed to provide the necessary knowledge and skills for curriculum development and enhance teachers’ capabilities. Participants will also have the opportunity to share innovative ideas and discuss challenges experienced nationwide. Dr Singh highlighted that the program aims to train participants to design curriculum according to the needs of the present situation.

Dr Surendra Yadav, Program Co-Director, provided an overview of the program details and its objectives. The workshop’s concluding remarks were delivered by Dr Pradipta Kumar Pattnaik, followed by a word of gratitude from the Head of the Department, Prof Dr Gyanendra Nath Tiwari.
