Lumami, 22 March (MTNews): Nagaland University held its 6th Convocation at I Ihoshe Kinimi Hall, Lumami on 22 March2 with the Governor of Nagaland and Chief Rector of Nagaland University, La Ganesan, as the chief guest. The Vice Chancellor of NEHU, Professor Prabha Shankar Shukla, the Registrar of Mizoram University, Professor Lalnundunga, and Professor KP Yadav along with Professor Madho Govind were also present at the occasion.

Welcoming the gathering, the Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, Professor Jagadish Kumar Patnik, said that 15,350 graduates, postgraduates, and doctorate candidates were awarded degrees. Of these, 54 candidates received Ph.D. degrees, 94 received Master’s degrees, 6 received Bachelor’s degrees, and the rest received their degrees in absentia. The Vice Chancellor added that there were also 105 distinguished Gold Medal recipients in different subjects, of which 86 received their medals in person.

The Vice Chancellor also highlighted the various achievements of the university, such as the successful registration in the National Academic Depository as well as the Academic Bank of Credit, including the Credit Transfer Policy in tune with NEP-2020. He informed that, with effect from the next academic session, postgraduate admissions will have a reservation of 30% of seats for candidates through CUET. Highlighting that the intellectual property ecosystem has also seen a radical change due to the policy of incentivization, the Vice Chancellor said that this academic year, teachers have been able to publish 25 Patents, with 7 being submitted for approval.

Further, he informed that the NAAC Peer Team Visits are scheduled from April 1-3, 2024.

The Governor lauded the students for their hard work, dedication, and passion, adding that learning is a never-ending process. “Success should not be narrowly defined, and community values should not be lost in the pursuit of individualist success,” he said, adding how education should not be a burden but rather a freedom for the students to study their favored subjects, highlighting the National Education Policy.

During the course of the program, the conferment of degrees was delivered by Professor Dr. Samudra Gupta Kashyap, Chancellor, and the declaration of Convocation and vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Abemo, Registrar of Nagaland University.
