In July of 2020, Yashirenla Jamir and Imlamongla Amer established Velvet with the core concept to facilitate clients who do not have much time to go to the market and search for different items to gift their loved ones. Bringing their thoughts together, they started customizing gifts and started catering to people for all sorts of occasions.
According to Aren, it was a journey that started for fun with an intention to fly past the lockdown with a mere budget of Rs. 3000 and handmade boxes which soon turned into a full-fledged project.
But only five months into the project, in the month of January 2021, Velvet turned into Yashiren’s solo project although Among continued to extend her love and support.
“The thought of going solo has always been tough, skeptical and ambiguous, yet with the love of the Velvet family – both in our social media and physical clientele today, we are 1k plus strong,” said Yashirenla who hails from Longjang village.
Calling it an art, Aren has been successfully picking the perfect gift where they bring in their resources from local artisans, weavers and even go beyond borders to curate the best wrapped emotion in their gift hamper for all sorts of occasions.
“At times it does get quite challenging. People here at home usually have this concept of ‘the best of the best at the lowest possible price’. But at the same time we have to take into consideration the packaging, the hard labor involved in sourcing our items including even the tiniest of ribbons and laces to postcards which are all finely curated to add value to our products,” she shared.
But even with those challenges, Velvet believes in exchanging love and trust with their clients and hence, has always tried to keep their budget flexible making it easier and more accessible to all.
“Our clients can place orders for budgets as low as Rs. 500 and above,” she said.
Velvet_clg deals with a huge range of gifting items and options, from food hampers, floral bouquets, and birthday gifts or any occasion at any day and hour, to make sure their clients show and express their appreciation to their loved ones.
Velvet, holding their firm belief in friendship and community, extended their shout out to the fellow small town entrepreneurs such as @sweetlittebatter, @sen_bakes @blissful_ bites3 and @delight_flora_mokokchung and hopes to continue to exchange the value of trust and love shared between them.
“There is indeed tremendous value in immersing yourself in the small business community and sharing the challenges and factors specific to each one’s businesses and above all, the experience of positive results amongst ourselves, truly growing together – hand in hand,” she said while speaking of the growing entrepreneurship in the town.
In her concluding remarks, she shared how it has been a “tumultuous yet rewarding” journey so far.
“I am grateful that God has blessed us in every aspect of our journey. Velvet wouldn’t have been where it is today without the support of our family, friends, our loyal clientele, and especially my parents who have been my biggest succor since day one.”
