Asen, who resides in Tongdentsüyong ward, Mokokchung after having completed her master’s from Nagaland University, Lumami initially began crocheting only as leisure until she began to receive love and compliments from her friends for her work.

“At first I had no intention of doing business but as I kept making things like dolls and clothes, people started ordering the products and that’s how I started this business in 2020,” she said.

According to her, she likes to crochet Amigurumis the most and fortunately for her, Amigurumis are 80% of what her clients order all the time.

Amongst the crochet she has done so far, the biggest project she has completed was a Men’s sweater.

“It took me months to make it. It was very challenging as I made a large sweater with a thin yarn. And I believe that was the most challenging project so far.”

Talking about the various challenges she faces, she called it a ‘bit hectic’ and ‘time consuming’ although she was certain that none of it diminishes the love she has for the craft.

“It actually involves a lot of body pain so, I just wish our hard work and our efforts be considered. It’s just that oftentimes, customers expect really cheap prices because most people are not aware about the hectic work involved in the process,” she said.

Asen, throughout her journey as a crocheter is grateful that, so far, none of her clients has any complaints nor given any negative reviews.

Although crochet has become huge on the internet, she displayed her uncertainty on whether crochet can turn into a full blown business.

“I’m not really sure if there is potential for this field of business in our market, but crochet has become a huge thing on the internet recently and people tend to go with the trends so maybe in that way there may be scope for crochet business though it might take time to grow big,” she said.

Coming to her future plan, she cannot be sure whether she can make crocheting her full time career but she has no intention to stop her business.

“God willing, I will try to get it going by putting my best effort and with help and support from friends and customers, I hope someday will be successful in my work,” she concluded.
