Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) Mandir, the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi on 14 February, describing it as a “symbol of unity and harmony” with years of hard work behind it. He commended the UAE government’s role in the temple’s construction, emphasizing its commendable contribution.

Expressing gratitude to President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, PM Modi anticipated a surge in devotees visiting the temple, fostering people-to-people connections, news agency ANI reported.

The consecration ceremony of BAPS Hindu Temple in Abu Dhabi was held ahead of its inauguration. The priests conducted rituals before the inauguration.

During the inauguration, PM Modi requested a standing ovation for President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) Mandir is the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, situated on 27 acres of land generously gifted by the UAE leadership. With an estimated cost of Dh400 million, the temple stands as the largest in West Asia, reflecting architectural brilliance and cultural significance.

PM Modi, who arrived in the UAE on a two-day visit, expressed gratitude for the UAE President’s approval of the temple, highlighting its importance in enhancing the enduring friendship between India and the UAE.

The temple’s inauguration adds a cultural chapter to the UAE’s identity, beyond its reputation for iconic structures, proudly standing as the largest in West Asia. PM Modi’s visit marks the third to the Gulf country in the past eight months.
