July 8, Mokokchung (MTNews): Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared a day of national mourning on July 9 for former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who died from gunshot wounds after being fired at in Nara, near Kyoto. Abe was shot twice in the back while giving a campaign address at a railway station about 8 a.m. IST.
Taking to Twitter, PM Modi wrote, “As a mark of our deepest respect for former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, a one-day national mourning shall be observed on 9 July 2022.”

 

Recollecting several joint initiatives taken by India and Japan when Abe was the Prime Minister, Modi said, “Mr. Abe made an immense contribution to elevating India-Japan relations to the level of a Special Strategic and Global Partnership. Today, the whole of India mourns with Japan and we stand in solidarity with our Japanese brothers and sisters in this difficult moment.”

 

Meanwhile, the government of Nagaland through its Additional Chief Secretary & Home Commissioner, Sentiyanger Imchen has informed that, as a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, the government of India has decided that there will be a one-day state mourning on July 9 throughout India. “On the day of mourning, the national flag will be flown half-mast throughout India on all buildings where the national flag is flown regularly and there will be no official entertainment on the day,” he informed. “All concerned are requested to take action accordingly throughout the state of Nagaland,” he added.
