Goa clinched a hard-fought victory over Nagaland in a Ranji Trophy Plate Group match at the Panjim Gymkhana Ground, winning by 83 runs in a thrilling four-day encounter. Goa’s win was powered by standout bowling performances from Darshan Misal, who took five wickets and Rahul Mehta, who grabbed four, effectively dismantling Nagaland’s lineup and halting their chase.

The match began with Goa struggling to reach 179 runs in their first innings, largely due to Deepraj Gaonkar’s gritty 62. Nagaland’s bowling, led by Raja Ranjit Swarnkar’s 4/58, restricted Goa’s batting lineup, keeping the contest wide open.

In response, Nagaland faltered, managing only 147 in 55 overs, with Suchith J’s unbeaten 35* being the only significant contribution. Arjun Tendulkar’s 3/27 ensured that Goa held a slight edge as the teams prepared for the second innings.

Goa came back stronger in their second innings, posting a total of 306. Snehal Kauthankar led with a patient 75, but Rongsen Jonathan and Suchith J kept the pressure on, taking four wickets each. Despite their efforts, Goa set a challenging target for Nagaland.

Chasing 339 for victory, Nagaland showed grit, with Nischal D’s 94 being the standout performance. After a promising start, Nagaland reached 141 for 1 in their second innings before Goa’s bowlers turned the tide, reducing them to 255 all out. Goa’s bowlers, led by Darshan Misal’s 5/51 and Rahul Mehta’s 4/48, wrapped up the Nagaland innings at 255, securing an 83-run win.

Darshan Misal was named player of the match.

Goa’s victory strengthens their position in the Ranji Trophy standings, while Nagaland will look to regroup for their next match against Sikkim on November 6 at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Sovima.
