Neither the rain nor the mud-spattered ground at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex stopped Mokokchung from reliving the music scene they all have missed for so long. World Music day 2022 could potentially be marked as the day that rejuvenated the rock music scene in Mokokchung.

Event headliner ABOUT US

A crowd of about two thousand diverse fans, young and old, assembled to witness the talent packed show.

The show opened with a first timer at the venue, Dümchak band, with an exhilarating performance followed by Trap on Sight making the crowd singing along to their original single “Fly High.”
One the most anticipated performances of the night, the all girl band The Spectrums took the crowd by the storm with an electrifying performance. The night roar grew louder as The Great Decade took the stage creating the hype for the event headliner, About Us to take the stage.

But before the main event, the crowd was left unsatiated with a few numbers from The Paradigm Shift, leaving them wanting for more. Mokokchung’s own guitar maestro Arenlong Longkumer also wowed the crowd with his amazing guitar skills.

Then came About Us, sending the crowd to frenzy by performing hits such as ‘Gimme Gimme’ and ‘Right Now’.

The internationally signed band from Wokha, About Us, is on their ‘Rock on Top’ tour. Renlamo Ezung, the lead guitarist of the band told this news paper that they had initially planned to start their tour to “kick off from Mokokchung, it being the “rock capital of Nagaland” but sadly we couldn’t,” adding that their tour will cumulate in Dimapur.

Ezung said that once the tour ends, they will be heading straight to the studios as they have 11 songs to record for their new album as per their signed record deal. One song will be exclusively for Japan, he added.

The event is organized by BlendIn Events in celebration of Word Music Day 2022 which coincides with the summer solstice, where the Northern hemisphere experiences its longest day of the year.

Advisor for Task Force for Music & Arts, Government of Nagaland (TAFMA) Theja Meru attended the event and exhorted Mokokchung to “continue to create stars.”
