Kohima, 25 April (MTNews): The Department of Youth Resources and Sports, Nagaland, in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India, North Eastern Regional Centre, Imphal (SAI NERC Imphal), will conduct the Khelo India Rising Talent Identification (KIRTI) assessment tests in Kohima from April 26 onwards.

The sporting disciplines selected for Nagaland are archery, athletics, wrestling, boxing, and football, marking a significant step in identifying budding talent in the state. The assessment tests are scheduled from April 26th to May 1st, 2024, at IG Stadium, Kohima, and will begin at 9 am each day.

A press release from SAI NERC Imphal stated that through this initiative, SAI aims to establish ‘bharat’ benchmarks for performance evaluation, thus spearheading the drive towards excellence in Indian sports. This endeavor not only identifies promising talent but also sets new standards of achievement, heralding a bright future for sports in the nation, stated the release.

Laishram Samritya Singh, Assistant Director of Khelo India SAI NERC Imphal, said that KIRTI aims to conduct assessments across the country throughout the year to identify talent through notified Talent Assessment Centres. He noted that during the assessment tests, participants will undergo a comprehensive battery of ten physical fitness tests designed to evaluate their physical attributes under the supervision of SAI coaches and experts.

The assessments will include event-specific trials such as the 100-meter sprint, 600-meter run, shot put, high jump, long jump, and throw ball.

He also said any individuals with a passion for sports and aspiring athletes aged between 9 to 18 years are still welcome to participate in this prestigious event. While athletes are required to bring their own gear and equipment, including appropriate footwear such as running shoes and sport-specific shoes like football cleats, tailored to their respective sports.
