A new initiative ‘Skill Training Facilitation Centre’ is being initiated by the District Administration in collaboration with the District Skill Committee, Mokokchung. The main objective of this initiative is to be the one-stop centre in disseminating information on Skill Training.

Seeing the lack of skill-based training centres in the district, this initiative has been started to address the problems faced by various people where to get their required Skill training centres. As most of the Skill Training Institutes are located in Kohima and Dimapur, the Centre seeks to provide guidance in facilitating the best platform to get their training for the people of Mokokchung.

The Centre functions from the DC Office, Mokokchung and offers facilitation on Skill Training Counseling, Student Counseling, Facilitation of Admission in Skill Training Institutes and Credit Linkages for aspiring entrepreneurs. It has its target for the youths and women of the age group from 18 – 45 years and also beyond depending on the person. It also facilitates the age limit for various trainings one wants to take up.

Dhritishree Bordalai, MGNF, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India is the contact point Skill Training Facilitation Centre, Mokokchung.

Various awareness programs on Skill Based Training along with career guidance sessions were held in Ungma in collaboration with Soyim Student’s Union and Free Computer Training for some students from Mokokchung and Chuchuyimpang Village in collaboration with NELIT, Chuchuyimlang Village this year. The response from the public was positive as stated by the organizers.

Answering to a query on how far this Skill Training Programs are contributing to the employment rate in the state, Dhritishree Bordalai replied, “Taking the example of Mokokchung District, people are largely dependent on primary sectors like agriculture, farming as well as some in the service sector like bakeries, beauty parlors, automobile repair shops etc. Apart from the government jobs, we don’t have industries or job creation; so, many of the youths are unemployed. In order to bridge the gap of unemployment in the district, such initiatives strive to provide a platform for the people to refine their skills which I believe is creating opportunities for self employment.”
