Skinic Essence is a beauty line that helps you gain confidence in your skin with its natural and organic handmade products. It is owned, managed and single-handedly prepared by Sungjemsenla Jamir of Longsa village.

Growing up, Asen recalls how she was never into cosmetics and make-up but totally vested into skin care. And, thus, while attempting to get herself productive during the lockdown, Asen made use of her YouTube education on DIY cosmetics in building her business.

“I actually didn’t have a plan before. The first thing I ever made was a lip scrubber for me and much to my luck, my friends and cousins loved it and wanted to purchase them from me. Then they introduced those products of mine to their friends and they loved it. So that’s basically how I started my Instagram page @skinic_essence_by_jj and eventually my business started running smoothly,” she said.

Exactly a year after Skinic Essence’s inception in 2021, Asen, who grew up in Mokokchung, says her business has been encouraging in terms of sales so she hopes that one day she can have her own outlet.

“I really wish to open my own outlet very soon so that way I can sell my handmade products and goods as well as support other local businesses. I want to keep their handmade creations in my outlet and help in selling them. I want my outlet to not only support my business alone but support many other small businesses as well,” she said ambitiously.

Asen is a former student of Jubilee Memorial School and G. Rio School, and completed her graduation from Jubilee Memorial College but is on an academic break while dedicating her time on her newly found brand.

One of her popular products is ‘lip butter’ which she says she makes by buying necessities such as tubes, Versagel, fragrances and colors from various online stores.

Asen’s Skinic Essence not only makes lip butter but a variety of beauty products such as body butter, lip oil, soap, shampoo bars, as well as other goods like candles that are of bubble shape, heart shape, cylindrical and so on. Along with it, Skinic Essence also imports jewelleries from other states and countries to resell them.

Speaking on how she makes sure her products are authentic and harmless, she said that ‘meticulous research’ are carried out in everything she makes and tries the products on herself, her family or her friends before commercializing it.

“Much to my luck, so far I haven’t got any feedback about a negative reaction on their skin. It has been sailing so smoothly that I haven’t considered and decided on how I’d deal if someone has an unfortunate reaction. But I’m very confident that my products can be used by anyone,” she concluded.
