The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, has issued a notice on May 14, 2026, convening a Special Meeting of the elected members of the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) to consider a motion of no-confidence against incumbent Chairperson Hukheto Yepthomi.

According to the notice issued by Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, NCS, the motion was initiated after 12 of the 23 elected members of the DMC submitted a notice expressing their intention to move the no-confidence motion. The notice was delivered by two elected members of the council and received by the Deputy Commissioner on May 11, 2026.

The notice further stated that the motion was scrutinised and found to be in conformity with the procedural and substantive requirements laid down under Chapter-II, Section 15 (1) & (2) of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, including the requirement of support from not less than the statutorily mandated number of elected members.

Following verification, the Deputy Commissioner expressed satisfaction that the motion is procedurally valid and warrants the convening of a Special Meeting for its consideration.

The Special Meeting has been scheduled for May 22, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Office of the Dimapur Municipal Council. Elected members of the DMC have been directed to attend the meeting.
