The Special Court (POCSO), Kohima, has convicted Tova Sema, a resident of Chekiye Village, Chümoukedima, in a cybercrime case involving Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).
Sema, who was 34 years old at the time of the offence in 2023, was convicted under Section 67B of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and Section 15(1) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
The Court on September 21 sentenced Sema to two years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 under Section 67B of the IT Act. In default of payment of the fine, he will undergo three months’ simple imprisonment.
Under Section 15(1) of the POCSO Act, he was also sentenced to pay a fine of Rs 5,000, with one month’s simple imprisonment in default of payment.
The case originated from information received through Stockholm Interpol and subsequently communicated to Indian authorities through the CBI/Interpol channel concerning suspected CSAM and associated activity on Wickr.me.
The case highlights the role of international law enforcement cooperation in tracing suspected online child sexual abuse material and related cybercrime activity.
The conviction was delivered by the Special Court (POCSO), Kohima.
