The second edition of the Spring Badminton Championship concluded on 29 April at Babu Tzubo Ampitheatre, Ungma, Mokokchung. The championship began on 26 April.

 

The closing ceremony of the championship was graced by Dr. Watizulu Suzumeren, Vice-president, Badminton Association of India, Senior Vice-president, Nagaland Badminton Association. He praised the Soyim Shuttlers in organizing a tournament which can be compared with the district level organization. He encouraged the association to work towards organizing even state level tournaments.

 

While talking about the lack of Naga sportspersons in the national and international levels, he stressed that there were three pillars that is required for the success of a sports person. First is the existence and support of Clubs and associations. The second pillar is the support from parents which he believes is lacking in our state and thirdly the support from the government.

 

Dr. Watizulu remarked that the sports quota in the state has not been implemented and passed in the state assembly for reasons unknown but he hopes that the sports quota would be implemented in the state at the earliest.

 

The match synopsis was given by the Chief Refree, Imomar Jamir, National Umpire, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Takotong Longkumer, Convenor.
