Pope Francis, the Supreme Pontiff of the Holy See, passed away on 21st April 2025. In respect of the late Pope, the Government of Nagaland has announced a two-day state mourning period, coinciding with the national observance.

According to a DIPR report, the state mourning will be observed on Tuesday, 22nd April, and Wednesday, 23rd April 2025. Additionally, one day’s state mourning will be declared on the day of the funeral, with the exact date to be announced later.

During this period, the National Flag will fly at half-mast across all government buildings, and no official entertainment will take place. The observance will serve as a mark of respect for the Pope’s passing, in line with national guidelines.

Meanwhile, the Vatican has announced plans for Pope Francis’ funeral following a meeting of the Cardinals today. The funeral is scheduled for Saturday in St. Peter’s Square, with a public viewing of his body beginning tomorrow in St. Peter’s Basilica.

Pope Francis passed away yesterday at his residence in the Vatican after suffering a stroke. A number of world leaders and foreign dignitaries are expected to attend the funeral.
