After an eight-year hiatus, the Süngkotenem Beat Contest is set to make a grand return on January 10, 2025, with the countdown to this iconic music competition already underway. Cancelled in its last edition due to the pandemic, the quadrennial event promises electrifying performances by bands from across Nagaland.
Coinciding with the Arrenpong Sports Festival, which kicks off on January 9 at Mopungchuket village, Mokokchung, the contest is organized by the Mopungchuket Ait Laishir Telungjem (MALT), the village’s students’ union.
The sports festival will feature competitions in football, basketball, softball, table tennis, marathon racing, athletics, and indigenous games played between the eight units of MALT. Together, the events blend sports and music to entertain participants and visitors.
This year’s contest offers a prize pool of Rs 1.5 lakhs, with Rs 80,000 for the winner, Rs 50,000 for the runner-up, and individual awards.
The beat contest begins at 4 pm on January 10, with Advisor TN Mannen as the special guest.
Meanwhile, the 92nd general session of MALT was held on the evening of January 8.
